Throughout his life, Matt was always determined to do his best and succeed despite the obstacles he faced. In 2012, as Matt fought his cancer, the first group of Mammo supporters sprang into action, raising money to help offset the cost of medical bills and other expenses the family was facing. It was at this time the phrase “Mammo Strong” was created and the seed was planted.
Mammo Strong Inc. has donated over $160,000 to children in need.
This phrase was the inspiration for family and friends as well as local businesses as they organized events to support Matt and his family as they prayed for his recovery. The first was Mammo Day, held on the JCA Campus. The show of support from the community was overwhelming and very much appreciated. As hopes ran high that Matt was going to win his fight, a golf outing was being finalized. Sadly, Matt lost his battle on May 27, 2012, and was not able to see the success of these events. Later that year, his sister Rachel created an event called “Mammo-Palooza,” a day to honor and celebrate the life of her brother. The first event was in October 2012 and has become the signature event each year for our fundraising.
To continue Matt’s spirit of life and giving heart, Mammo Strong Inc. was formed as a 501(c)3 Illinois Non-Profit Corporation. All proceeds from fundraising events help children to succeed in life, either medically or academically, or to experience youth sports. To date, Mammo Strong Inc. has donated over $160,000 to children in need.
